WHAT IS THE STREETCAR 
The Downtown L.A. Streetcar will be a modern fixed-rail streetcar system - it is NOT a trolley, a cable car, a tram, a bus or a people-mover.

 

INTEGRATED INTO DOWNTOWN
Modern streetcars are designed to easily integrate into existing urban environment and feature minimal construction impacts in comparison to most public transit capital projects.

 

RELIABLE, EVERY DAY TRANSIT
The Streetcar will operate 7 days a week for approximately 18 hours a day, making it an ideal transit system for getting to and from work, exploring around Downtown, and enjoying entertainment and nightlife.

 

ACCESSIBLE TO ALL
Building a modern system allows Streetcar to be accessible to wheelchairs, parents with strollers, and cyclists with bikes.

 

CONNECTS NEIGHBORHOODS AND TRANSIT OPTIONS 
The Streetcar will link with regional transit to connect Downtown's many exciting neighborhoods and attractions, including Civic Center, Broadway and the Historic Core, Fashion District, South Park, L.A. Live and the Convention Center, Financial District, Restaurant Row and Jewelry District.  Creating a connective transit loop around these districts will benefit local residents, employees of Downtown and those looking to explore the greater community.

 

DECREASES CONGESTION 
The Streetcar, curb running and traveling at the same speed and in the same lane of traffic as other vehicles, will decrease the need for parking lot-to-parking lot travel and will provide a pedestrian friendly alternative to driving.  Without the hassle of parking, it will encourage pedestrian travel and takes cars off busy Downtown streets.

 

CREATES A SENSE OF COMMUNITY 
Streetcar will increase walkability around Downtown, further enhancing the pedestrian experience in the area and promoting healthy urban living.  The modern system will additionally help replace some of Downtown's noisy congestion with a quiet, clean, aesthetically-pleasing Streetcar.

 

MAKES DOWNTOWN SAFER 
By adding additional eyes on the street and pedestrian traffic 18 hours a day, the Streetcar will promote better safety in Downtown.  Streetcar will also play a key role in rehabilitating under-developed areas of streets, making the area more vibrant and more active at both day and night.
